Position: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Start Date: September 2025

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

Salary: £105.00 per day

An inclusive and well-regarded primary school in the L9 area of Liverpool is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with complex needs on a one-to-one basis. This is a rewarding opportunity for a candidate who is confident, proactive, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide consistent 1:1 support to a child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or who is on the SEN assessment pathway

Work collaboratively with teaching staff, the SENCO, and external professionals to deliver targeted interventions

Support the pupil’s social, emotional, and behavioural development, including the use of de-escalation strategies during moments of crisis or distress

Confidently manage challenging behaviour in a calm, structured and supportive manner

Incorporate sensory activities and therapeutic approaches to help regulate emotional responses and promote engagement

Assist with implementing personalised learning strategies in line with the child’s EHCP and school targets

Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil to encourage independence and resilience

Essential Criteria:

Previous experience supporting children with SEN, including those with EHCPs or awaiting assessment

Confident in working 1:1 with pupils who may display complex or challenging behaviour

Knowledge and experience of using sensory-based strategies to support engagement and regulation

Ability to recognise early signs of dysregulation and effectively use de-escalation techniques

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

A calm, patient, and consistent approach

A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one

Desirable:

Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent SEN-related qualification

Team Teach, MAPA or similar behaviour management training (not essential but advantageous)
