Personal Care Assistants required, part-time, £13.85 per hour, Islington area (ref AD/GC2)

Personal Assistant is needed for a seventy-three-year-old man who had a stroke in 2018. He has some aphasia from the stroke and has been diagnosed with vascular dementia as well as autistic traits. He is mobile and intelligent but frail, He needs assistance in the following areas.

Duties:

Personal care - assistance with dressing and undressing daily and supervised teeth cleaning. Assist with shower and hair wash twice a week, along with beard trimming and nail clipping. Medication - Supervision of medication. Meals - preparation and clearing of breakfast, lunch and evening meal Shopping - Meal planning and supervision of food shopping (small items). Room cleaning – light housework/ domestic duties. Clothes washing/laundry duties. Occasional accompaniment to appointments.

Applicants must:

Have experience working with clients with complex health problems. Physically fit to assist with moving and handling. Be able to communicate via email and over the phone to a high standard. Be able to assist with food preparation and general domestic duties. Have very strong organisational skills. Be able to keep detailed records and notes regarding individual's day to day care. Be able to take initiative and develop routines and improvements to the care environment without much direction. Be respectful and interested to learn about specific disability and needs. Respect autonomy, independence, and dignity. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

Experience or willingness to learn about communicating with people on autistic spectrum/with dementia/with aphasia. Clear spoken English. Punctuality and consistency. There are other people living in the house and the PA needs to be sensitive to the surroundings. Able to work independently. Sense of humour.

Essential requirements:

Current DBS/CRB check required.

Training:

Training alongside previous PA will be provided.

Hours Available:

Saturday – 2 hours and 30mins - there are morning and evening visits.

Pay:

£13.85 per hour (gross).

5.6 weeks paid holiday per year, pro-rata.
