Description
I bought this Fabia in June 2023 as a CAT N, it had been gently run down a rubber bollard on the passenger side. I left it with my bodyshop to repair it with no panels replaced, which is what I prefer to changing panels (Pictures of damage included in photo set). He also took a light dent out of the tailgate and blended it well. This gave me a good start point as I like my cars to function fully correctly and set about a bit of a refurb, shall we say. People put up with things that I wont, such as the heater motor only working on fastest speed due to a resistor failure! And blowing exhaust flexi pipe. Below is a list of the things I sorted straight away.
Front Exhaust Section £76.26
Heater Resistor £38.03
Varta Silver Dynamic C30 Battery 54Ah 520CCA £71.27
Gates Auxilliary Belt - 6PK1873 £15.88
2 x Stabilus Tailgate Struts £25.95
Anti Roll Bar Bushes £11.50
Wheel Refurbishment £280.00
4 x Roadmarch Eco 99- 195/55/15 Tyres £132.00
4x Centre Caps £24.84
Grille & Skoda Badge £57.50
Skoda Front & Rear Mud Flaps £37.40
Boot Fabia Badge £11.45
Boot HTP Badge £13.92
Of course I gave it a full end to end service with coolant and brake fluid changes. It had recently had front brakes at the point I bought it. The car was owned by the previous owner from circa 2015 and clearly they were retired and the car was covering around 2000 to 3000 miles per annum and this was in Maidstone Kent and therefore the subframe and rear torsion beam were mint and I set about taking advantage of this and waxoyled them to keep them mint. The wheels were refurbished by a wheel specialist I know in Telford and to factory colour with new genuine caps. They haven’t seen a winter since as I run it on steels and winter tyres Nov -Apr.
I have put the car through a couple of MoT tests now and covered around 8000 miles in it. The tests are a breeze, I think it’s only ever failed 2 and these were headlight aim and rear brake fluctuation, nothing really and before I bought it too. This age of Fabia are rock solid and built to last!
The emissions at the test were excellent with HC at 0 the limit being 200 and CO at 0.00 with the limit being 0.20
The brakes were well balanced too
Foot Brake
Front Left 251 KGF
Front Right 252 KGF
Rear Left 155 KGF
Rear Right 165 KGF
Hand Brake
Left 121 KGF
Right 145 KGF
(Lock Imbalance 17%) It holds well
The service brake efficiency was 68% with the pass >= 50% for weight of car
The handbrake efficiency was 22% with the pass >= 16% for weight of car
Therefore a clean engine and clean as a whistle brakes!
The air conditioning is the best I have known on a car this age, ice cold within a minute and stays ice cold. Lets face it A/C doesn’t usually work on a car at this age!
Running costs are good, VED is £165 per annum, I have been paying around £200 fully comprehensive insurance per annum and over the 8000 miles driving it mainly urban its averaged just over 37 mpg, tested tank to tank. I used it for work for a week in Jan when the snow was bad and covered just under 900 that week with absolutely no issues whatsoever, it soaked up the M6 and M1 no problem, absolutely rock solid dependable in adverse weather conditions.
There you have it, you just need to tax it, insure it and stick some petrol in it, its tested until the end of May next year. All consumables are fresh and It had a Liqui-moly flush and oil change last autumn along with the brakes being cleaned and greased.
I know people go on about oh it’s a CAT car and its worth pocket change! but to be honest at this age and taking into account the condition of the bodywork and mechanical condition I know if I had to choose between this and a “maintained on a shoestring budget” Fabia I know which one I’d choose but that’s up to the individual. At the value I have put on it you are more than compensated for the marker.
Why am I selling? I switched my main car I use for work to electric last summer and have decided to change my back up car to electric now and bought a late plate Zoe, I was more than happy to keep it and I’m not selling it for any other reason, I prefer honesty and give honesty as you can see.
Cash on collection, V5C present and in my name and address.
