Description
An antique / vintage turnscrew, which is the old name for a screwdriver. These types of turnscrew have a rustic feel to them and feature the distinctive wooden. They were commonly used by carpenters and cabinet makers in the past, pre-dating the more modern Phillips head screws.
This particular piece would have belonged to my great-grandfather, and possibly his father before him which dates it to late 19th-early 20th century. They were both very much into building and carpentry, as were my dad and grandad, although that interest has not been passed down to me unfortunately. I have now inherited such a vast number of tools that I need to move some on.
There are some holes in the wooden handle and general signs of use as you'd expect, but it was made in a time when tools were built to last and so it still has plenty of life in it. Hopefully it can go to a new home where it will be used and appreciated, rather than just sitting in the shed.
It measures 20 inches overall with a 12 inch steel head.
