Description
We are looking for a compatible being to take up the spare bedroom in our shared home. We are on the Hove/Portslade border in a spacious, Edwardian town house.
The house is split over 3 floors and rented from a private landlord.
Our housemate has just moved in with their partner, so the third room is becoming free.
The bedroom is currently part furnished (bed, rug, wardrobe) but there is an option to have it unfurnished or to ask for help getting it fully furnished too. We have permission from the landlord to drill holes and construct/create temporary structures in our own spaces, on the condition we remove any changes we make and fill all holes when we leave. Leave it as we found it.
Travel / Transport / Amenities
The number 1 bus route runs regularly and late into the night.
Portslade train station is at the top of the road.
Supermarkets and a plethora of shops are all within a couple of minutes walk.
Some are 24hr.
The Admin
The room is available from 1st August 2025. Our very reasonable landlord does require a previous landlord reference, a credit check and either proof of employment OR a guarantor. This admin process would need to be completed before moving in.
The contract is for 6 months initially. We would assess after that period if their is compatibility within the household before longer ones are considered.
Rent is £ 530 per month and our water/gas/electric/internet bills work out around £180 max each per month inclusive of council tax Band B.
Who we’re looking for
Someone…
-who is happy to share responsibility for the care of the home environment
-who is willing to collaborate to keep interpersonal relationships healthy
-respects needs for solitude as well as shared time together.
independent, and experienced at co-habiting.
-who knows how to communicate actively with respect and integrity
-who is open to our household being shared with 2 cats (Welcome to have your room off limits if you prefer.)
-who is compatible and excited to co-create a mutually beneficial home environment together.
Please read-on, and feel free to ask any questions you might have
About us,
The household is 2 partnered human beings and 2 cats, Orin 1yr old and Gust 3yrs.
Our home is a sanctuary. We are both employed in physically demanding roles, and like our home to be a place of rest and respite. We enjoy a quiet and peaceful space.
We are both non-drinkers, and would prefer a sober household. That said, we’re happy to make the occasional exception for special celebrations (birthdays, xmas etc).
I am a PA for people with invisible disabilities, a writer and I have a regular long-established yoga practice. I am also a massage therapist, so will have occasional clients into the living room for treatments: this will be arranged ahead of time, so can give you notice in advance. My Partner Jon is a street cleaning operative, nature lover and RPG GM.
Our preference would be to live with someone who also leaves the house for work. While working from home might be ok if it’s only occasional, please do get in touch to discuss.
For our leisure time we enjoy reading, cooking, hiking, foraging, board games, tabletop RPGs, and offbeat movies.
We do have some quirks we’d like you to know and consider in advance. We’ll also endeavour to be mindful of your quirks too and will try to mutually find ways to meet particular needs as best as we can if possible.
We love the fresh air, and having windows wide-open as often as possible; we rarely put the heating on except when particularly cold in winter. Please do bear this in mind; as long as you don’t mind a cool environment and are happy to wear warm clothing, hot water bottle or extra blankets during the winter months, this may be a good fit for you.
I am very sensitive to synthetic fragrances. Body spray, spray deodorant, some commercial cleaning products, reed diffusers and pressurised air misters give me headaches and make me feel nauseas. Essential oils, roll-on deodorant and natural incense are welcome.
We are both quite sensitised to sound also, both a blessing and a curse. While we experience euphoria through music and trance to rhythm, we can feel overwhelmed by loud tv/radio, or sudden and intrusive noises (e. g. slammed doors) especially when trying to rest/sleep. We manage this with white noise or earplugs, but please bear this in mind when deciding if you are a good match. For instance, if you are willing to wear headphones while e. g. watching tv/gaming etc at night, that would be appreciated.
We welcome the chance to get to know you, and hear about any needs you might have in either home or housemates.
If you are ready to make a change of home and either resonate with our wants, needs and quirks above, or can extend courtesy in those arenas, then we invite you get in touch - by message to begin with - and would love to run through any initial questions first.
If we feel you’d be a compatible housemate, we’d then like to arrange a mutually agreeable time for you to come and view the home and share a cuppa.
Any questions, thoughts, concerns or ideas are very welcome.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Enna-Rose and Jon
