VINTAGE FRENCH ENAMEL JUG, WATER FOUNTAIN, IRRIGATOR, PLANTER, WATER FEATURE, KITCHEN UTENSILS JAR, BLUE MARBLED ENAMEL, 2Litre 26cm tall - 1950s FRENCH KITCHENALIA

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

We got this from a vide grenier near Epernay in the Champagne region and have been using it as a hanging planter, however it is actually a charming enamel water fountain or irrigator/douche dating to around the 1950s.
Originally this would have been wall hung and had a tube attached to the spout with a tap and when filled with water the tap would have released water for drinking or washing.
It has thick blue marbled enamel visible along with measurements up to two litres to the interior.
Worn and no longer quite watertight but very sturdy, it is now probably destined to be a planter (hanging or freestanding), water feature, kitchen utensils jar, or just a great display piece of French kitchenalia.

In good, sound vintage condition with staining, rust, chips and wear consistent with its age and use - please examine photos carefully for condition.
Well used with a few areas of rusting and chipping but strong and sound with no structural damage and no through perforation visible - see photos.
The enamel is thick and bright both inside and out.
The handle is sound.
The spout is similar with some rusting.
NOTE: No longer watertight. I have filled this with water and, apart from water escaping through the spout, it leaks slowly at the lower rusted corner as photographed. I can’t see a hole so I think it must be seeping from the seam.
I can find no maker’s mark.

13.5 cm wide,
Weighs about 570 g.
