Ornamental Flower Clock Hands
Bramley, West Yorkshire
£20
Description
Here is an opportunity to acquire a pair of Ornamental Flower Clock Hands (only) such as would have graced many a public park since 1903 when Edinburgh had the World’s first (see first photo).
These particular hands would have been in a West Yorkshire park up to the 1970s when one day vandals broke into and set fire to the shed they were stored in over the winter. They both sustained damage to the glass-fibre but for someone who is familiar with glass-fibre repair work they shouldn’t present a problem. I’ve had these hands for over 40-years with the intention of repairing and displaying them, but time (no pun intended!) has caught up with me and I must now move them on to someone who can sort them out and appreciate their value once again.
Dimensions:
Minute hand, 8' 4" (2.54m) long with a potential sweep of 5' 9" (1.73m)
Hour hand: 6' 7" (2m) long with a potential sweep of 4' (1.22m)
A clock dial to suit these hands would have to be a minimum of 12' (3.66m) diameter.
Ornamental flower clocks were always big and hugely attractive during the summer months and, like these, the hands would have been a riot of colour from the dozens of bedding plants, protected from over-watering by drainage holes.
These could be one of Gumtree’s more unusual offerings and are available for sale from the Bramley (Leeds) area for (£50), now £20 to move on; delivery can be arranged.
