AQUILEGIA ex 'Nora Barlow' & other BARLOW SEEDS. From the 'Very Special' collection from Touchwood

Hi, I'm Carrie Thomas of Touchwood, and I am crazy about plants and gardening. I grow many special, unusual and rare plants and will share seeds of some here as part of my 'Very Special Seeds' collection.

I do not think anyone else can offer such a good range of these wonderful plants. I have bred Aquilegias, granny's bonnets, columbines for many many years now and can offer you seed from some outstanding plants. Aquilegias are stalwart cottage garden favourites and can flower for you year after year.

Aquilegia 'Nora Barlow' is the aquilegia that people don't believe is an aquilegia! yet it is an ancient one, grown in gardens for centuries and known as the rose columbine. The flower structure is an unusual sepaloid double where each 'petal' shades from deep old-rose-pink through cream to the green tips. Because it is is formed of sepals rather than petals, it is one of the few aquilegias likely to come true from seed, so I'm sure you'll get what you want from the seedlings you grow from my 'Nora Barlow' seeds. I love both the colours and structure of this old, beautifully and regularly formed, variety.

Other Barlows I may have seed of: Christa Barlow, White Barlow' 'Rose Barlow' and an intriguing one with flowers like a pale form of Nora.

Note, you never know what the offspring will be like with aquilegias. BARLOW TYPES TEND TO COME TRUE FROM SEED. The bees have had their fun, and as all my plants are open pollinated, Aquilegias cannot to guaranteed to come true to type, I select seed from the correct seed parent, but do not know what pollen fertilised it. Nevertheless, I've never seen a 'bad' aquilegia! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

My special interest is Aquilegias. I used to have the only 2 National Plant Collections of Aquilegias in the whole of the UK. Until the killer disease Aquilegia Downy Mildew (ADM) devastated them and I lost my business, my passion and even moved house because of it. I am now beginning to rebuild a smaller collection of these special plants. I also have seeds of loads more unusual, rare and cottage garden plants.
