Description

I'm selling most of my keyboard collection. Please see my other listings.

If you're looking at this you probably know that this was THE sound on the mid 1980s. Stock sounds ( from the two included cartridges) were used on something like 40% of top 40 hits on almost every billboard; Rock, pop, R&B, soul. If you can name a major act of the 80s there's a 70% chance they used a DX7 on at least one track. here's a quote from google AI: "The DX7 was widely used in 1980s pop music, in hits such as "When Doves Cry" by Prince, "The Best" by Tina Turner, "Smooth Operator" by Sade and "Smooth Criminal" by Michael Jackson. The "BASS 1" preset was used in songs such as "Take On Me" by A-ha, "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins, and "Fresh" by Kool & the Gang." that ominous bell like sound at the beginning of Top Gun (and also Top Gun Maverick), yep DX7(well, technically a TX816 which is basically a rack mounted box with several DX7 modules in it for a richer sound). Now, you probably don't need a DX7, as I didn't when I bought it, a few years ago, but, here's your chance to own a very clean example and you will always be able to say "I used to own one of those", because once you decide to move it on, if you do, it might actually be worth more than you paid for it.

Recent work: The RIFA capacitor in the power supply, which explode with age, was replaced this year with a newer, better capacitor type, before it exploded, but it was showing signs of dying. the pain in the asp soldered on factory battery died recently, so i replaced it with a 2032 cell holder and a 2032 battery, which is easy to replace. I removed most of the keys recently, cleaned them, and re greased (silicone grease) the guides, so all keys now glide smoothly, although they weren't that bad. Yes, there's supposed to be grease in there. So there's nothing else to do. It's ready to go for another decade or two, there are no outstanding maintenance issues.

The duct tape on the bottom is there to protect the bottom paint from being rubbed off by the stand ( which the last owner kept). He maintained it very well. I'm pretty sure there's no damage under the tape, but I don't want to remove it and deal with the sticky mess. but if you buy it on condition the bottom isn't unduly marked, you're welcome to remove the tape in my presence to confirm the condition. But remember, this board is between 38 and 42 years old, so its got a few signs of age, but very few. But don't worry about the age; yamaha used to build thing very well, with top quality components, and this was a professional bit of kit, not consumer. the case is metal, and its quite heavy.

FYI the cartridge alone (see photo 4), sell for around £60 each on eBay, so there's £120 in value right there. Not all DX7s sell with both these cartridges.
