Ornate frieze carved Galleon ship roundel.
Late 19th century early 20th century.
A rare collectors’ piece by iconic Scottish makers Wylie & Lochhead, this elegant Arts & Crafts oak hall robe / coat cupboard dates from circa 1920 and showcases the refined craftsmanship of the Glasgow Style movement.
Made in solid quarter-sawn oak with a rich aged patina, the tall, slim form features a striking carved sailing ship roundel to the door, flanked by stylised foliate carvings in the vertical stiles — hallmarks of Wylie & Lochhead’s finest work.
Intricate minute detailed carvings and cornicing.
This piece is highly evocative of the era, with strong design echoes of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and other Glasgow School contemporaries.
