'Granitine' Developing Tray, extra large, Victorian ironstone porcelain
Torquay, Devon
£14
Description
'Granitine' developing trays were made by Taylor Tunnicliff & Co. over a hundred years ago with a semi-vitreous body covered in a hard porcelain glaze that withstands chemicals such as those used in traditional darkoom developing of photographic prints. This is a particularly large (and heavy) example of such a developing tray:
Length incl. spout: 14 inches
Width: 11 inches
Depth: 2 1/2 inches
Nowadays they are prized for display and ornamental usage, maybe as a stand for plants, or a container in a 'Victorian look' kitchen or pub, or a tasteful accessory or container just about anywhere.
Two minor chips only - one along one inner side and one on the edge of the pouring spout - and the surface glaze remains otherwise in wonderful condition.
Cash and collect only (sorry, no remote sale) from central Torquay.
