A Cautionary Tale: Our Nightmare Moving Experience from Aldershot to Edinburgh Context: We received a quote for moving a 2-bedroom flat from Aldershot to Edinburgh, including packing services with 2 vans and 4 men, consistent with what other moving companies were quoting us. I provided them with 3 videos of our flat, a description of the building (on the 2nd floor, no lift), and a photo of our 50 sq ft locker filled at 50%, located a 5-minute drive from our flat. The quote was in the mid-range of all the quotes we received, ranging from £2,000 to £2,800. We decided to go with this company because they appeared professional based on our interactions, and at the time, they had a 5-star rating from over 150 reviews. Reality: About 2 weeks before the move, I asked if they were supplying everything for the packing (i.e., boxes, wrapping bubble, wrapping plastic etc.) to ensure the move would go smoothly. They replied that they will provide everything. The plan was to move over 2 days with an 8-hour drive to Edinburgh. On the first day, they arrived at around 10:00 am with only one van and 4 men. They said they would only pack on the first day. I asked how they would deliver the next day at 6 PM in Edinburgh if they were not loading the truck on the first day. The team manager kept repeating the same thing and then left his 3 staff members packing with only a handful of reused, fully damaged large boxes that looked like they were taken from the dump. They had no scissors, a small roll of tape, and no door stoppers. After an hour, they ran out of boxes and tape. They said they were going out to find more and returned 2 hours later. As the boxes were too large, they filled them only halfway, which quickly filled the van. The quality of the boxes and tape was so poor that the boxes of books opened, and our books fell out, causing damage. Instead of repacking them properly, they put them in a large bag, causing further damage. At 4:00 pm, they ran out of boxes again, leaving us with no more packaging for our belongings. They packed the van as if they were moving for the first time, wasting a lot of space. We had to argue with the manager, who told us he would put our things on the street. Once the first van was full, he also told us we should dump all our remaining belongings. For the locker, he pretended he was unaware of it, although we had proof of sending the videos and photos. His excuse was that his phone broke down 2 weeks before the move, and he lost all the information. If that was true, he should have called us back to get fully prepared for this move. At our locker, we had some remaining brand-new boxes that we provided to his staff, which helped but that was not enough. By 6:00 pm on the first day, they hadn't entirely emptied the rooms, and 3 lockers in our corridors were still full. We had to empty the locker ourselves to ensure nothing was forgotten. Loading the first van: They used our furniture to block the doors while it was raining, parked in our neighbor's parking space, and walked through the mud instead of using the stone walkway, which scraped the carpet in our building. I repeatedly removed our furniture from the doors to prevent rain damage and they eventually found a paint pot for wood and metal in the corridor to use instead—remember this paint pot for later. Our neighbors were upset as we all take great care of our building. Instead of 2 vans, the second van was a small one, insufficient due to their lack of packing experience. We had to argue with the manager to honor his quote. He then sent one of his staff to pick up the other van, meaning they had to unload the small one and load the other van. This happened at 9:00 pm, and the new van arrived at 2:30 am with no more boxes while the manager told us on the phone that he had asked and would provide boxes to his staff for us (over the phone, it sounded like he was in a bar or a party with loud music in the background). My husband stayed at the flat while I went with my son to the hotel for the night. My husband arrived at the hotel at 4:00 am. Our neighbors were upset by the noise overnight. I was worried that the second van would never return, leaving us with no way to move and with half our stuff missing. Fortunately, we had packed our own clothes and special items and taken the most precious items in our cars. The next day: We drove and arrived at 4:45 pm in Edinburgh. We were worried as, throughout the first day and the travel to Edinburgh, the team manager kept saying the price would increase. When the vans arrived, our belongings were covered in black dirt and wet from the rain due to leaks in their vans. All our furniture was damaged either by water leaks, scratches or chips from being forced into the vans. We decided to have them only unload to avoid further damage to our new place (e.g., carpets). It took about 1.5 hours to unload the 2 vans, and we helped as we wanted to be done with it. The manager asked for a price increase of 17%, which we refused. He was surprised, thinking it was a reasonable increase despite the damage. His excuse was that we had IKEA furniture, implying it was less valuable, which is irrelevant and unprofessional. He gave us the paint pot I used to hold the door in our former place, claiming he bought it for us, which was a lie or part of a premeditated act to avoid bad feedback by playing on pity. We also asked why he didn't call us when his phone broke down. He admitted he should have. We explained that they should have good-quality packing materials, and he laughed at us. In the end, we paid only the original quoted price. I would advise against using this company for moving. They might be good at emptying spaces and taking things to the dump, but this is no moving company. We feel sorry for the staff working for this owner and believe they would be better off in a company that cares for both staff and clients.

They moved our house, but my furniture is ruined. One of the guys who came to move was very reluctant. It was as if they were moving things by force. Frankly, they are not bad, but they can improve themselves a lot.
