Description

My name is John Pretty. My strength is client service and attention to detail. There are few genealogists in the UK with more experience of research work. I have been working as a full-time professional genealogist for 16 years and in that time have served clients from all over the globe. While my client base is international, no job is too small or too large. I am an associate member of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA) and I adhere to their codes of practice for genealogists. In total, I have been researching for 38 years. In that time I have visited most of the archive offices in England and also have experience of working as a genealogist in Scotland. Furthermore, I have extensive experience of records from Ireland and Wales. I have also researched genealogical records located in France. I provide a range of fixed-price research and presentation packages for my clients, and also work on an hourly basis, if appropriate. Please ask for details or go to my website for more information.

John took us on a family journey going back to the 1500s with lots of very interesting twists and funny stories along the way. His prices were reasonable and his work was brilliant, he had great communication all the way through and was always very informative knowing his stuff. I had been working on my family tree for a long time and was getting bogged down. Both my mother and grandmother were born in Argentina and even after visiting that country I was still short on information. Enter John Pretty, John was able to fill in the gaps I needed and more. I now have the details I required not only of my mother and grandmother but also my Great Grandmother and her family. I have had the pleasure of the services supplied by Family Trees and Ancestry twice. In 2014 John Pretty found my mothers family after a very complicated search. (she had 4 aliases) He found relatives, some still living, who I had no idea existed and who I have since had contact, and exchanged information and photographs. In 2023 I tasked john with finding my fathers ancestry on the same basis and he came up trumps again after a complex search, finding a great grandfather who had two families with progeny from both, one of which produced my dad and eventually me. Family Trees and Ancestry are very pleasant to deal with and I was kept informed of progress at every stage of the searches. I found John Pretty affable,considerate and efficient . I have recommended his services to all my family who may wish to find other relatives.
