ERCOL CANDLESTICK LATTICE DINING CHAIRS set of 4 requiring refurbishment
Kettering, Northamptonshire
£150
Description
These early 1970s Ercol chairs are basically sound but require some work to bring them back up to scratch.
From what I can see there are no broken spindles on the chairs – just a few loose joints to these and the odd leg. Some joints show signs of being re glued in the past.
There is the odd minor crack in the chairs bases but nothing in my mind that requires attention. These are tiny so may not show in any photos.
One chair has had its rear backrest spindles replaced in the past with what looks like undersize 12.5mm pine and the glueing work not very neat. Beech is the original material and ideally you may want to replace these with 14mm diameter beech dowel around 43cm long. If not found locally to you Amazon do packs of 14mm x 1000mm in packs of 10 for £18 sufficient for 20 new spindles.
The construction of these chairs will be Elm bases with everything else Beech. These woods lend themselves to just have a Danish oil finish after hand sanding all the old surface off. In the past I have used Rustins Danish oil for just such a task and the Elm bases especially come up really well.
After a thorough clean and the od bit of re gluing these chairs could be used as is - but in my mind they are more suited for someone to give them a complete refurbishment – and they are being sold as requiring just that.
