Description
1960s Vintage Rocking Chair designed by Hans J. Wegner
A truly iconic mid century beech and papercord rocking chair designed by Hans J Wegner for FDB Mobler in the 1960s. The making of this particular piece dates back to the year 1967 with the date stamped on the frame.
Beautifully crafted chair by one of the best Scandinavian designers from the period.
This beautiful rocking chair by Hans J. Wenger is a true survivor. The we found this iconic chair it was covered in white gloss paint. We have painstakingly removed the white paint on the beech frame by hand and resprayed the frame back to its original black. The papercord was also painted in white paint and we have tried to remove as much as we could without damaging the original weave. Unfortunately we are unable to completely remove the paint without removing the original cord.
Otherwise the chair itself is structurally sound, no splits in the wood and no loose papercord weave. Please review the photos - happy to answer any questions.
Measurements:
H110cm x W63cm x D80cm
Seat height: 42cm
'Hans J. Wenger showed an early interest in the rocking chair as a design object, and J16 was one of his first chairs ever put into production. The very first version was designed in 1944. After a process to make the chair easier to manufacture, the production could start..'
