Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate Collection 1980-1989 (10 Plates)
The plates are hand made and based on an artist's drawing, which is copied to a plaster mould from which the plates are produced. Each plate is individually painted with a blue underglaze after which it is glazed and fired at about 1,400 degrees Celsius. The manufacturing process takes several weeks. The Moulds are destroyed on Christmas Eve each year so no copies can be produced after the year they are denoted for.
Plates are in very good condition, previously displayed, with no chips cracks or restoration. The odd one comes in a box. Each plate has a reverse notation of the scene in Danish and English along with maker's mark. Selling due to lack of space. First pic shows 31 years of plates - only the 1980's (10 plates) are listed here.
According to the 2004 edition of Christmas Plates by Lars Christoffersen (Schiffer Book for Collectors), these 10 plates have a combined value of US$500-$720 or £410-£600 The plates typically valued at US$40-$80/£30-£65 each). They retail for about £110 each when bought new.
