Omega Seamaster Chronostop Dive style wristwatch - Swiss - 145-008 - '60s - Vintage

Lovely old Omega watch. In need of a full service. Working but runs fast, and the chrono button is slow to re-set, it does eventually, but is gummed up with dried out oil.
Some missing area on the white minute marker between 9 and 11.
Case back has a fair amount of scratches from bad case opening in the past, can be polished out.

We have here a fantastic dive-style Omega Seamaster Chronostop model 145.008 .. The watch is complete with the inner dive multi-direction bezel. The black dial has slightly reverse tapered stick mirror baton markers, nice cream lume dots with just enough patina to give no doubt to its originality. The outer minute tracking is an interesting checkerboard style and the final outer-ring is the 60 minute, unidirectional bezel. White stick black/white hour and minute hands are complemented by the orange flyback Chronostop hand. This model was actually known as the poor mans Speedmaster as it actually uses a variation of the Omega Speedmaster moon watch caliber 861.

The 41mm, stainless steel, screw-back case is big for a vintage watch but the perfect size for a dive watch (Not to be considered as waterproof today) and wears equally well on men and women. Inside is the mechanical manual wind caliber 865.

Movement. Generally, Omega introduced two new manually-wound movements for their Chronostop collection. Two calibers that were solely used in these simplified chronographs. The calibers 865 (no-date) and 920 (date) were introduced in 1966 and 1968, respectively. As the chronograph only needed a stop-second hand these movements were simplified versions of the base caliber 860, Omegas work-horse chronograph movement of the time. Interestingly, to time an event you had to push to start the chronograph-hand, push down and hold it to read the elapsed time and release the pusher to reset to zero.
Production. The calibers 860 and 920 were in production for only a time-span of about 4 years. Until 1970 Omega produced roughly about 185,000 units - 124,000 865s and another 61,000 920s. Meaning that for both of these movements the yearly production was at around 30,000.
