Product Specification Technologist

Location: Sutton Fields

Department: Technical / Quality Assurance

Role Overview

As a Product Specification Technologist, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of all product specifications, pack copy, artwork, and supporting documentation-including labels and factory QAS. You'll be the linchpin between suppliers, customers, and internal teams, ensuring that every product meets technical, legal, and customer-specific standards. With a sharp eye for detail and a proactive mindset, you'll help drive product launches that are seamless, compliant, and right first time.

Key Responsibilities

Create, maintain, and validate customer specifications, pack copy, artwork, and ancillary documents.

Ensure all documentation meets Critical Path timelines and launch deadlines.

Guarantee accuracy and legal compliance in line with customer labelling policies.

Liaise effectively with suppliers to ensure raw materials meet technical and regulatory standards.

Collaborate with internal departments to ensure smooth data transfer and specification setup.

Support continuous improvement in specification processes and systems.

Required Experience

experience in the food industry, ideally within food manufacturing.

Proven background in specification writing for major UK retailers.

Solid understanding of food and drink labelling regulations; formal training is a plus.

HACCP and Food Safety Level 3 certification.

Working knowledge of TACCP / VACCP principles and documentation.

Key Skills & Attributes

Exceptional communication and organisational skills across all levels.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.

Skilled in managing multiple tasks and priorities under tight deadlines.

High level of accuracy in data transfer and specification entry.

Strong attention to detail with a "Right First Time" approach.

Ability to work independently, proactively, and as part of a team.

Flexible and adaptable to changing regulatory and operational demands.

Hands-on, solution-focused mindset with a drive to resolve issues efficiently.
