Description
Job Title: Glass Manufacturing Operative Job Purpose To support the production of glass products by operating machinery, handling materials, and carrying out multiple manufacturing processes safely and efficiently. The role requires attention to detail, physical fitness, and the ability to work night shifts after initial training. Key Responsibilities
Operate a variety of machines and tools involved in glass manufacturing, including cutting, polishing, edging, toughening, and finishing processes. Handle, move, and load raw materials and finished glass products, often involving heavy lifting of items up to 30kg+. Follow technical instructions, production schedules, and safety standards to ensure products are manufactured to specification. Conduct quality checks on glass at each stage of production to identify defects or imperfections. Safely operate lifting equipment, suction lifters, and manual handling aids to transport large glass panels. Work with the production team to meet output targets while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Follow strict health & safety procedures, including wearing appropriate PPE and adhering to manual handling regulations. Report machine faults, defects, or safety hazards to supervisors immediately. Keep work areas clean and organised in line with 5S/lean manufacturing principles. Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting ways to improve efficiency, safety, or quality. Requirements
Previous experience in manufacturing, production, or heavy–duty manual work (glass industry experience preferred but not essential; full training provided). Physically fit and capable of safe heavy lifting, bending, and standing for long periods. Strong attention to detail with the ability to spot defects or inconsistencies in glass products. Willingness to work night shifts (10:00pm – 6:30am) following completion of training. Must be available for initial training on day shifts (6:30am – 3:00pm) for approx. 4 weeks before moving onto permanent night shifts. Good teamwork and communication skills. Reliable, punctual, and able to adapt to changing priorities in a busy manufacturing environment. Working Conditions
Manufacturing facility with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy materials. Shift role: 6:30am – 3PM. PPE provided and must be worn at all times. Manual, physical work requiring stamina, precision, and safe handling techniques.
