Description
Illustrated London News. George V Lying In State And Funeral 1936.
The Illustrated London News first appeared on Saturday May 14th.
1842. It was the world's first illustrated weekly news magazine.
Founded by Herbert Ingram it appeared weekly until 1971, then less
frequently thereafter, and ceased publication in 2003.
The edition here was produced as a supplement to the Illustrated
London News of February 1st 1936. In effect it was a special edition
to record the Lying-in-State and Funeral of the late King George V
and the Accession of King Edward V11.
King George V died on January 20th and the funeral was on January
28th.
Apart from two portraits (the late King and his widow Queen Mary)
in colour all the photographs are in black and white. Most of the 76
pages are packed with interesting and historical photographs.
The magazine measures 36cms. by 25.5cms. - it is quite weighty
and weighs 550 grams.
There are a few rips and tears and the staples have rusted meaning
the pages have separated but considering
the age of the magazine its condition is very good.
The original price 2/6 (i.e. two shillings and sixpence) is shown on the
front cover.
