The role of a Steel operative is varied and includes supporting on stock controller, operating Forklifts, Tugs, Overhead Cranes and supporting on quayside duties as required.
Inspecting SteelOrganising StockTransferring stock around site operating a Tug and TrailerOperating a B2 Forklift for safe moving of SteelOperating scannersLoading with an Overhead gantry craneQuayside duties in line with vessel discharges8 Hour shifts some roles are rotating AM/PM and night shift roles availableWhat skills are essential for the role of a Steel Operative?
We offer great training to ensure you can be your best as a Steel Operative however the following is a minimum requirement:
Keen to learn new skills and a flexible approach to workAble to measure stock and record correctlyEither a UK driving licence or alternatively a Counterbalance forklift (expired will be considered)Good time keepingWhat is desirable for the role of a Steel Operative?
The role of a Steel Operative is varied and the following transferable skills are highly desirable:
Knowledge of Steel grades and sizesPrevious experience operating heavy plant and machinery e.g. Tugs, Forklifts, HGV Class 1, Overhead GantryIOSH Cargo Handling in Ports qualification / IOSH Managing SafelyPrevious experience in a similar role e.g. Port operative, Steel Operative, B2 Forklift Driver, Shunter Driver, Crane driver, Stock ControlPrevious experience in a similar environment e.g. Port or Dock, Power Station, Steel Works, Steel manufacturing, Construction, Demolition, Steel works, Distribution, Logistics etcIf you would like to either progress your career or change career and think you have the essential skills please apply now!
