Pair of Vintage Red Green and Gold Chinoiserie Ginger Jar Table Lamps, Floral Design with Birds, circa 1980s.


This pair of vintage red, green and gold Chinoiserie ginger jar table lamps belonged to my mum, who purchased them some 40 years ago.

At first glance, the lamps look to be identical. It is only when you stand them side-by-side that you notice:

• The lamp on the left is a slightly darker red than its companion on the right.
• Where one bird looks upwards as it flies on the righthand lamp, its companion on the left looks forwards as it flies.
• The wooden base on the left is slightly darker in colour.

These small variations in detail give the lamps a unique charm in that they complement each other with their subtle differences.

As often happens over time, there are some signs of wear. Please examine the photos as they form part of the description. I have adjusted the asking price accordingly:

• Small flake specks on both, particularly around the brass fittings.
• Some scratching on the neck.
• The lamp on the left has a limited area of damage on its body amidst the foliage.

The lamps have brass fixtures with bayonet fittings and push pin switches.
