This has been my experience with Topjob Building, Liverpool, with Tom in charge.
I have had a bad year with a death in the family so decided to get work done on my pond to uplift myself.
Tom said I had to pay for half the job unfront. No tradesman would ask this. Also he kept saying what a great job they would do and how I would be delighted with the result. Sales patter - a good tradesman would let the job speak for itself. They started work next day.
The worked in a mess and blocked my drains.
They didn't seem to have any equipment and used my brushes.
More mortar than paving round the pond. The mortar was chalky so little or no cement mixed in.
They said they had put protective covering under lining but when I felt underneath new lining there was only the old lining although they said they had put installed protective covering
They only worked a couple of hours that first day after which time I knew I had made a bad mistake. I tackled them about the shoddy work but they claimed that it would be a wonderful job, more than I asked for when they finished.
My son came to see work and Tom made out it was a difficult and tricky undertaking.
My son saw them off the site and although he is booked weeks or months in advance he rectified and finished the job as it was an easy job for him. The difference the way each team tackled the job was the difference between night and day.
I could make comments on other aspects of the work.
So they got £1,500 for a few hours work and a bit of standard lining - a sum I can ill afford to lose but I paid for my stupidity
On ringing Tom he put the blame solely on me for not allowing him to finish the job and proving that their work was of the highest standard. I could only judge what I saw and couldn't see the quality improving.
The worst part is feeling ashamed and stupid for handing over the money before the job commenced and maybe falling for the sales patter.

Top job building has recently done some work for me.
I needed my flat roof fixing as there was a leak plus the gutters wasn't flowing.
Tom came out and looked at the work and gave me a very fair price.
He and his team started work the following day and had it completed to a high standards, it has been a few weeks now and still no leak.
Highly recommend these lads.
Thanks lads.
