Description

A glass sculpture of the famous Mary Rose made from hand-blown glass with rose gold sails, by Abbey Glass Handmade Artistic Glassware.

The Mary Rose was a Tudor warship and was one of the first ships ever to have gunports. It famously sank in 1545 during the Battle of the Solent, and was later salvaged in 1982. Built in 1510 and launched in 1511, it served King Henry VIII for 34 years before its untimely demise.

This is a large-sized piece and is in excellent condition.

The bottle, ship, masts and ropes are made of translucent glass.

The sails are made of rose gold.

‘Mary Rose, Circa 1545’ is engraved on a golden plate on its handmade wooden base.

On the underside of the base there is a label that reads ‘Abbey Glass, Handmade in England, Sunderland England’.

The bottle shape is classic in style with a dumbbell-shaped bottle neck and decanter-style stopper.

The box is mislabelled as ‘May Flower AG105’, and there are some cellotape markings on the box (see photo).

Measurements:
• Length: 32cm
• Width: 8cm (from the widest part, which is the stand)
• Height: 10cm (on stand)
