Description
Set of 3 matching Japanese translucent eggshell porcelain saucers, bearing a design of two ladies and a lord beneath a flowering tree. Whether the ladies are Geisha or court ladies is not clear. The two ladies are in front of a flowering tree (cherry or gingko?) beside a small pagoda.
Tree blossom and stones on the ground are picked out in raised gold and white and although at first sight they appear identical, minor differences in the positioning and painting can be seen on closer examination, suggesting that some part at least is hand-painted.
No indication of age but are at least 50 years old as we lived in Japan between 1967 and 1973.
