Description

printed on the back of the plate: Dek. Carneval, Foreign, 19; stamped into the clay is number 4583 or 4588. I believe the dish is German. Dims 27 cm across to each triangular point.
A very unusual triangular dish - majolica or stone ware - light weight with rounded edges, very typical for the 1950’s. This dish embodies these exciting times, embracing playful, colourful swirls on a black background. The colours are bright and stand out well against the black. The design is reminiscent of balls of wool being unravelled - perhaps by an invisible, playful cat and the entire dish evokes a feeling of bounciness and movement, which so embodies the time of this new age.
Note: Vintage condition is good - but there are a couple of chips in the black glaze on the edges of the plate and one tiny nip on the white on the side and some tiny scratches on the face, only visible when you look very closely. None of these detract from the sheer joy of the item. Overall the dish looks shiny and joyful.
I am selling reluctantly but it has been with me since the 1980‘s and I need to downsize. Collection preferred to view and handover but can deliver locally. Prefer not to post this one.
