PO 6617 C.Sgt W. Walters R.M.L.I.
1914/15 Trio in good collectable condition. He is named as PO.6617. CR. Sgt.W.Walters R.M.L.I. On all medals

Born in Shoreditch , London on the 14th of December 1877. He enlisted as a Boy entrant in the Royal Navy on the 31st of July 1893 at Gosport his occupation give as “ Errand Boy” .
Throughout his service in the Royal Marines he served on many ships this is shown on his service record ( Digital ) which accompanies the group

RN Records confirm that he was awarded a 1914/15 Trio ,

He was in receipt of silver war badge RN41082
But its not with the group

He appears on LSGC roll however the medal seems to have been withdrawn
'Returned to Mint 1922' deprived

It appears that he was on HMS Swiftsure in 1911 and whatever he was doing from 5th of August 1914 to 31st of December 1915 made him eligible for the 1914/15 Star

On the 17th of August 1916 he embarked on HMS Superb which had participated in the Battle of Jutland earlier that year . He remained there until 4th of April 1918. After a brief spell on shore he embarked on HMS King George V on the 14th of August 1918 and remained there until the 31st of January 1919

His Ministry of pensions index card states he was awarded a pension from 27 Jun 1919

He must have been a stone's throw from the barracks.
His wife Alice Mary, born Meonstoke, is at that address on the 1911 census with their five children. It states that of their 11 children, 6 have died. She has been married for 12 years. Their eldest son is named Edgar.

In 1921, he is a widower, with two children living with him at 9, Deane's Park Road, Fareham, Hampshire. He is employed as a tailor at the municipal college.
