Description
At the front end of the system on offer is the unassuming Marantz CD-48 compact disc player with remote control. It has a smooth clear sound with great detail courtesy of one of the rarest DAC chips Philips ever made, the TDA1549 was in production for a short time and was only used by a handful of manufacturers. The chip endowed this player with a sound that was recognisably above that of its competitors. A search on the internet will show that it is highly regarded by “tweakers” who enthuse about it and go to great lengths to fully realise its potential.
The NAD 310 stereo integrated amplifier is conservatively rated to deliver a modest 20 watts per channel into loads of 4 to 8 ohms (from 20-20 kHz) with less than 0.05% distortion. It utilises NAD’s "Super Simple" circuit design, which uses fewer components and allowed for the use of higher quality components which resulted in an amplifier that punches above its weight. This amplifier is line level only, no phono stage.
To complete the system I an including a pair of JPW Mini Monitor bookshelf sized speakers on 600 mm Atacama stands. JPW were a British loudspeaker manufacturer that built a reputation for great sounding speakers. They were very enterprising too and to keep costs down they had their speakers assembled in prison by prisoners!
These components are in good working and cosmetic condition and work well together. The system is better suited to a smaller room, or bedroom. Of course no system would be complete without interconnects and speaker cables. I also have the original boxes and internal packaging for the CD player and amplifier.
Nothing else visible in the attached photos form part of this sale.
