Description
A monumental pair of large cast iron fire dogs or andirons in the form of lions, with lion heads and paw feet. These are very large and heavy, painted black with a light wax/oil mix on top to enhance patina and resist corrosion.
Age uncertain but the detailed face and style probably dates it to the Victorian era when larger fireplaces were more common. The paint looks to be in good condition which makes them look "fresh".
Viewings in Morningside but happy to deliver to most of the Edinburgh region for free.
Condition
A used item in good condition. Two of the rests in the same place have a chip out of the casting on the underside, probably from removing the sprue of iron during the casting process. Small chip to one of the paw feet nails. Please see photos.
