Homelessness Relief & Prevention Officer **

We are working in partnership with a Local Authority in the Berkshire area who are seeking a Homelessness Relief & Prevention Officer.

About the role:

Provide comprehensive housing advice and assistance to prevent and relieve homelessness for all households in housing need.

Conduct a housing needs assessment to determine what statutory duty (if any) is owed.

Issue relevant notifications and decisions under section 184 of the Housing Act as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act.

Assist in assessing housing applications and deciding on nominations and allocations of social housing.

Work in partnership with outside agencies, RPs and other departments to resolve households housing problems.Contract Lengths: 3-6 months with a view to extend to an ongoing contract.

Pay Rates: £29+ per hour (negotiable depending on your experience)

Location: Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 5LD. (hybrid working - 2 days in office per week)

Job Purpose:

Provide comprehensive advice and assistance to all households in housing need to enable them to maintain their accommodation and/or prevent homelessness either in person, on the telephone or in writing.

Participate in the frontline duty service.

Conduct a housing needs assessment and prepare a personal housing plan (PHP) taking into account the needs assessment and to keep the PHP updated in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act.

Prevent homelessness and resolve threats of homelessness to eligible households by giving appropriate housing advice and providing hands on support.Experience Needed:

Experience of resolving housing issues.

Experience of drafting and making S184 decisions.

A minimum of two years' experience in a front-line housing service.

Knowledge of homelessness legislation including but not limited to the Housing Act 1996, the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and other related legislation.*We offer a market leading referral scheme of up to £250 so if you know of someone who may also be looking for an exciting career opportunity*
