Building Safety Manager
Central London
Hybrid (2 days per week onsite)
£450 - £500 per day (DoE)

3-month initial contract

Reporting into the Head of Compliance, you will lead on all building safety matters across the council’s privately owned medium- and high-rise residential buildings. This is a strategic and hands-on role, ensuring compliance with building safety legislation, supporting enforcement actions, and driving continuous improvement in fire safety standards.
Your role as Interim Building Safety Manager:
Building Safety Strategy: Undertake desktop reviews and develop a risk-based inspection programme for medium- and high-rise residential buildings.
Data Collection & Analysis: Gather and review data on external wall systems (EWS), FRAEW reports, and other fire safety documentation.
Risk Assessment: Categorise buildings by risk level and refer unsafe cladding cases to the internal enforcement team with priority ratings.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with building proprietors to obtain details on cladding materials, interim safety measures, and remediation plans.
Funding Oversight: Review Building Safety Fund and Cladding Safety Scheme data to identify buildings not yet captured.
Partnership Working: Build effective relationships with the Fire and Rescue Service, MHCLG, and other stakeholders to share and obtain data.
Enforcement Support: Collaborate with internal enforcement officers on investigations, inspections, and enforcement actions.
Operational Excellence: Contribute to team processes, data maintenance, KPI reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Professional Communication: Respond to enquiries from proprietors, councillors, and stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
Flexible Duties: Carry out any other tasks aligned with the Building Safety Programme as directed by Senior Management.Your previous experience as Interim Building Safety Manager:
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Building Surveying or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 5 years in Building Safety, Fire Safety, or Building Surveying.
Technical Expertise: Experience conducting HHSRS surveys and reviewing EWS data.
Legislative Knowledge: Strong understanding of:

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
Fire Safety Act 2021
Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022
Design Principles: Familiarity with fire safety design for high-rise buildings and external wall systems.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills, able to explain complex issues clearly.
