Behaviour Support Assistant Schools in Eastbourne

Make a real difference in the lives of young people through meaningful support and mentoring.

Location: Eastbourne, East Sussex

Pay: GBP13.70–14.50 per hour (dependent on experience)

Contract Type: Flexible full–time and part–time positions available

Start Date: From September 2025

Supply Desk is currently working with a variety of primary and secondary schools across Eastbourne to recruit Behaviour Support Assistants. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people, particularly those who may face challenges with behaviour or emotional regulation.

As well as applicants with school–based experience and qualifications; we are also interested in hearing from people who may not have direct school–based experience but bring transferable skills from roles such as youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, residential care, or community outreach.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, your primary role will be to work closely with students who need additional support in managing their behaviour and engaging with learning. You'll be based either in the classroom or working with small groups and individuals outside of the main lesson environment. You'll work alongside teaching staff and pastoral teams to ensure that every student has the support they need to thrive in school.

Key responsibilities may include:

Supporting students with behaviour, social skills, and emotional regulation

Assisting in the delivery of targeted intervention strategies

Providing consistent encouragement and acting as a positive role model

Working closely with teaching and pastoral staff to adapt support plans as needed

Promoting inclusion and helping students re–engage with learning

Who We re Looking For

We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds. You do not need to have previous experience working in schools, but you should have:

Experience working with young people in some capacity (e.g., youth work, mentoring, coaching, care work, or mental health support)

A calm, patient, and resilient approach

A genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs

Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships

Requirements

An enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

The right to work in the UK

Relevant experience working with children or young people

Availability to work during school hours (generally between 8:30am and 3:30pm)
