This is a great amp in every way. It gives you that one-of-a-kind Marshall valve amp sound in a portable package with big handles mounted on the sides..

It offers 3 channels for better flexibility in managing your tone, plus all-valve circuitry for the warm, fat, sweetness you long for.

Some of the 100-watt versions of this amp have circuit board problems, but this one has had no trouble and has always seemed to work fine. If you're worried, you can get the easy Dr. Tube bypass kit and install it.

This is one of very few valve amps that offers separate reverb and separate presence for the clean and overdrive channels. Very helpful, if you like different settings for clean and distorted tones.

Many users have trouble with this amp, because it's so flexible and so adjustable. It can do things other Marshalls never could. They turn the gain to 10 and wonder why it doesn't sound right. After the '80s ended, buyers were seeking amps with more and more gain and different midrange balances for modern metal sounds, so Marshall tried to accommodate them. But, they went over the top on distortion, so to get the best sound out of this amp, you want to keep the gain a bit lower and hit the front end with a clean boost. Then, you can add sustain, compression, or different layers of distortion, if needed, for a more complex sound. The right amount of front end boost is usually enough for most situations. Just don't rely on the amp alone for all of your gain and overdrive if you like to play in the insane range.

Lots of pros say the TSL is one of the best sounding amps ever. But, you need to dial it in with your ears, not paint-by-numbers.

The amp offers 2 effects loops, so you don't have to have the same effects on clean and overdrive channels.

Some people also disparage the stock speakers, but all good guitarists use a speaker cabinet anyway, and used cabinets are inexpensive these days. I personally think the speakers sound nice (just listen to the demo) but the listener needs to be on axis. So, get it up of the ground on top of your 4x12! This 2x12 on my 4x12 really crushes.

Why do you want a 2x12? Well, let's say your speakers have a modest efficiency SPL of 96db. Look what happens when you increase the power:

1 watt 1x12 96db 2x12 N/A
2 watts 99db 96+96=192db
4 watts 102db 99+99=198db
8 watts 105db 102+102=204db

You get the idea. So, in addition to a fuller, fatter, more robust sound, they also push a lot more air, so they get much louder and give you much more dynamic range. This is also why the 4x12 cabinet makes an amp sound so much better.

We all know we should buy used to reduce the impact of manufacturing new things, but we always worry something will have a problem. You can see and hear from the video that it's in very nice condition. . Yes, it comes with the foot switch, unlike many other used examples. The switch is very useful, giving you instant access to all 3 channels, the effects loop, and reverb. And, yes, it comes with a power cable. The footswitch cable was breaking, so I had it repaired. Works fine, as you can see in the video. See the cable in the picture.

The 122 also has a balanced XLR output jack, so NO DI box needed to connect to the mixer or to record!
