The shorter neck of the Ibanez TMB30-IV bass is a lot easier to wrap your hands around than full-scale models, making it perfect for absolute beginners, players who long for a bass with a lighter body and smaller frame, or guitarists who want to play in the lower registers. The low string tension gives this short-scale bass a similar tone to an upright by shaping a mellow-sounding purr with emphasis on the mids. As the body-shaping hints, think sixties soul, R&B, rockabilly and surf.

Clever Construction

The body of the TMB30-BK is made entirely of poplar, which is nothing short of perfect for a short-scale bass guitar and gives the instrument its full tone and balanced, neutral character. The maple neck adds a layer of brightness, while a jatoba fretboard ties it all together by injecting a healthy dose of warmth into this bass guitar's total sound. As you've come to expect from Ibanez, the Talman comes with ultra-durable hardware, a skilled finish, and a friendly price tag.

The Right Pickups

Ibanez may be known for their high-output powerhouses, but they also knows when to tone things down a little. As such, the TMB30-BK is voiced by a traditional P/J pickup configuration consisting of an Ibanez Dynamix P pickup at the neck and a Dynamix J at the bridge that used alone or combined have a laid-back, vintage feeling output. The TMB30 has evidently been developed to give any serious beginner an affordable introduction to a great instrument.
