Handmade 5-String Jazz Bass Deluxe Style

Muswell Hill, London

Description

I built this bass myself from quality parts, aiming for something unique that still delivers solid performance. It’s based on a Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe 5-string but with my own touches, including custom inlays, gold hardware, and a slightly slimmer neck for a faster, more comfortable feel.

Specs:

Body: 2-piece alder, finished in black nitrocellulose. It’s a thin, resonant finish that will age nicely over time. As it’s hand-sprayed, it’s not a flawless factory job — there’s a bit of that “handmade charm” to it, and a couple of small marks which are shown clearly in the photos.

Neck: Quality hard Maple with C-shape profile, truss rod and carbon reinforcements, slightly slimmer than a typical 5-string.

Fretboard: Compound radius rosewood, jumbo gold frets.

Inlays & Pickguard: Abelone shell, all unique.

Pickups: EMG PJ5 active set (around £200 new) — clear, punchy lows from the P pickup and articulate growl from the J.

Electronics: 3 knobs – master volume, neck pickup tone, bridge pickup tone. Includes ABC switch parts if you want to change it to a selector switch style.

Hardware: German-made gold bridge (17 mm string spacing, slightly compact for a 5-string), Gotoh black modern tuners (approx. £70 new), handmade rosewood knobs.

Nut: Bone.

Scale Length: 864 mm (34").

Condition: Brand new build, never gigged.

Case/Packaging: Comes with a basic gig bag (not for heavy use)

Note: This is a handmade instrument, not a factory build. While it’s put together to a high standard, there may be small visual imperfections from the building process (mainly the small dings on the back), shown clearly in the photos. I am a Carpenter by trade and a budding Luthier, and I take pride in my work. I hope the new owner will enjoy it as much as I enoyed making it.

If you want a unique bass with character and style, quality components, and a comfortable feel, this one’s ready to go.
