1962 Fender Stratocaster - Refin
A fantastic looking pre-CBS 1962 Fender Stratocaster with a satin natural refinish. Neck code of Aug 1962, combined with serial number “78690” and pot codes of week 32 1962 confirm the age of this vintage Stratocaster. From the neck pocket it looks like this guitar was probably Dakota Red to begin with but the body has been stripped and refinished in a natural satin matt, showing off a nice Ash figured body along with the original dowel holes from Fender’s finishing process back in 1962. The neck has a nice thick Rosewood veneer which was used for about a year until Fender streamlined the design again.
The guitar has been superbly maintained and retains most of its original components - all original with following exceptions
Volume pot changed recently (2022 CTS pot) – original pot retained (a bit crackly)
Neck pickup looks to have been rewound
Neck has been over sprayed at some point
Pickup mounting grommets – originals retained
Back plate and 2 of the back plate screws
Tremolo arm
The frets and fretboard are in great shape – looks like it has had a fairly recent fret level and dressing carried out – guitar plays nicely right across the fretboard. The scratch plate has one crack in it, next to the screw hole nearest the bridge pickup, and the body has a couple of very light marks on it but other than these the guitar is in great condition.
The guitar comes complete with a vintage Fender Stratocaster case – not original to the guitar the case is a 1964/65 Fender case – a really nice example of these cases.
