The Ford Zephyr Mk3, produced from 1962 to 1966, marked a significant evolution in Ford's lineup of mid-size family cars. Building on the success of its predecessors, the Mk3 boasted a sleek and modern design, incorporating styling cues from American car trends of the time. Equipped with a range of engines including four and six cylinder options, the Zephyr Mk3 offered improved performance and driving dynamics. Its spacious interior and comfortable ride made it a popular choice among families and professionals alike. The Mk3 also played a role in motorsport, competing in events such as the Monte Carlo Rally. While it eventually gave way to newer models, the Ford Zephyr Mk3 remains a classic representation of 1960s automotive design and engineering prowess.
We are delighted to offer this 1964 Ford Zephyr 4 in black with red interior. First registered in April 1964, it appears that the car has been family owned for the vast majority of its life, and although the low indicated mileage cannot be verified, the condition of the car speaks volumes.
This particular car was won as a prize last year by the vendor in an online raffe run by Bridge Classic Cars, and having been owned for the last 12 months or so, he has decided to move it on.
There is little history with the car as the family looked after the servicing and maintenance themselves whilst in their tenure, although we do have some invoices purchased over the last 12 months or so for parts purchased by the the latest owner. These include a pair of track rod ends, a clutch master cylinder repair kit, and a brake master cylinder repair kit, plus a bill for £582 for the fitting of a new clutch in June 2024.
In addition, the brakes and heater appear to have been refurbished by Bridge prior to the car being raffled - a summary of the work they carried out is in the file.
This is a truly striking vehicle with a huge presence. The chromework isn’t perfect but it is very good and stands out against the black paint, giving an almost mini-American look - all that style without the excessive size. Whilst the exterior is fantastic, the cabin is possibly even better, the sumptuous red being the perfect contrast to the black. There’s acres of space on the big bench seats, which still have protective plastic covers on them. The dashboard is equally as striking and appears entirely original. The plastics are good and free from any obvious damage and the wood veneer is in fine condition. “Time warp condition” is probably one of the most over-used expressions in classic car circles but it is entirely appropriate here.
The car comes with V5C, tax disks, the aforementioned invoices, a number of handbooks and workshop manuals and a small collection of trophies won at local car shows, plus a few parts in the boot.
Ford Zephyrs are a rare sight, and couple that with the fabulous condition of this car and you have a very special thing, making this a great opportunity to put this slice of 60s glamour in your collection.
