Description

Job Title: Senior SCADA Engineer

Location: London / Remote Working

Client:

My client is a market–leading, multi–faceted renewable energy developer with a project pipeline exceeding 10 GW across the UK & Europe. They have successfully developed and executed over 3GW of projects in the last 10 years.

Due to recent investment in their BESS department, they are now looking for a Senior SCADA Engineer to join their team and drive forward their success and support the business in achieving their short–term and long–term goals.

Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SCADA Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and commissioning of SCADA systems for our Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SCADA architectures, protocols, and standards within the renewable energy or utility–scale battery storage domain.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and specification of SCADA systems for utility–scale battery storage projects.Develop functional and technical specifications for SCADA hardware, software, and communications infrastructure.Integrate SCADA with battery management systems (BMS), energy management systems (EMS), plant controllers, and grid interfaces.Manage data acquisition, telemetry, and remote–control capabilities for real–time monitoring and diagnostics.Oversee the configuration and programming of SCADA components (HMI/RTU/PLC).Support cybersecurity implementation in accordance with NERC CIP, ISO 27001, or equivalent standards.Work with internal engineering teams, EPC contractors, and vendors to deliver SCADA solutions on schedule and within budget.Lead Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT).Provide technical support during commissioning and post–commissioning phases.Ensure system compliance with grid codes, interconnection requirements, and utility specifications.Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing across the team. Qualifications:

Essential:

Bachelor s or Master s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or a related field.5+ years experience in SCADA engineering, with at least 2 years in battery storage or renewable energy projects.Strong understanding of SCADA communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, OPC UA).Experience with SCADA platforms such as GE iFIX, Schneider Wonderware/AVEVA, Siemens WinCC, Ignition, or similar.Demonstrated experience in HMI development and control logic programming (PLC/RTU).Familiarity with grid interconnection requirements and utility SCADA interface protocols.Excellent project management and stakeholder coordination skills.Strong problem–solving skills and attention to detail. Desirable:

Experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS) and battery control algorithms.Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks for industrial control systems.Familiarity with energy markets and regulatory environments.Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent (optional but advantageous).
