Mechanical Design Engineer – Large Incinerator Projects

Location: North East England (Onsite 3 days per week)

Contract: 6 Months (Outside IR35)

Rate: 45– 50 per hour

We're working with a specialist waste–to–energy and incineration systems company in the North East who are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a 6–month outside IR35 contract. This role requires specific experience with large–scale incinerator projects and offers an excellent hourly rate for the right candidate.

The Role:

You will be responsible for the mechanical design and engineering of large incinerator systems, ensuring robust, safe, and efficient solutions. The position will involve producing detailed design packages, liaising with project and site teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the mechanical design of large incinerator systems from concept through to detailed design

Create and review 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using relevant CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)

Specify materials, components, and manufacturing processes suitable for high–temperature and corrosive environments

Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and engineering standards

Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including process, electrical, and project engineers

Key Requirements:

Essential: Proven experience designing large incinerator systems or similar large–scale combustion/thermal plant equipment

Proficiency in mechanical CAD packages (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)

Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles for high–temperature, high–load environments

Knowledge of relevant pressure vessel, piping, and structural standards

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
