Experienced Auto Fitter / HGV Mechanic Wanted – Liverpool Area

We’re looking for a skilled and experienced Auto Fitter / Vehicle Technician / HGV Mechanic to join a busy, well-equipped fleet maintenance workshop based in the Liverpool area. You'll be working on a diverse range of HGVs, LGVs, plant vehicles, vans, and specialist fleet machinery.

Key Responsibilities

* Diagnose and repair faults on HGVs, LGVs, vans, plant vehicles, and municipal fleet

* Perform routine vehicle servicing, inspections, and maintenance

* Undertake auto-electrical fault finding and repairs

* Complete MOT testing (Class 4, 5, and 7) to DVSA standards (if qualified)

* Calibrate and repair tachographs in line with legislative requirements

* Carry out welding and fabrication using gas and electrical methods

* Accurately complete job cards, service records, and inspection reports

* Use modern workshop diagnostic systems and software

* Support fleet compliance and safety inspections

* Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient working environment

Essential Skills & Experience

* Strong mechanical background working with commercial vehicles

* Confident diagnosing and repairing HGVs, LGVs, refuse trucks, plant machinery

* Good understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems

* Able to complete technical documentation accurately

* Familiarity with VOSA/DVSA regulations and compliance standards

* Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

* Commitment to health & safety and high standards of workmanship

Qualifications

* Full UK driving licence with Category C (HGV Class 2) entitlement

* City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent)

* MOT Tester (Class 4, 5, 7) – desirable

* Tachograph calibration certificate – preferred (or willingness to train)

* Welding certification or proven fabrication experience – beneficial

* Good level of written and verbal English

* Minimum of 2 years' experience in a commercial vehicle repair setting

About the Workshop

You’ll be joining a large, experienced in-house fleet maintenance team responsible for servicing and repairing a wide range of commercial and municipal vehicles. The workshop is fully equipped with modern diagnostic systems and tools, and offers a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and technical excellence
