Upcycled Dressing Table to Set of 3 Drawers
Glenrothes, Fife
£100
Description
This is a lovely low set of 3 drawers. You can see from the photos that it started life as a dressing table. It took me quite some time to decide what to do with it as it had some damage that was beyond my skillset to repair. I therefore decided to keep only the centre section and discard the long damaged legs and mirror sections. The cabinet has been painted charcoal matt black. I repaired as best I could the loose and missing marquetry. First ever attempt at this, far from perfect but not too bad. Photo 2 will allow you to compare my work against the original work. Difficulty getting the right width of wood for the task. I purchased new round feet to keep the cabinet low. Top and drawer wood has been sanded back to bare wood then two coats of boiled linseed oil applied. It has brought out the grain and colour of the wood beautifully. A couple of the drawers are a little sticky to pull in and out but I've applied beeswax to cabinet runner wood and drawer sides and this has certainly helped. However, going forward this may need to be repeated if the drawers become a bit sticky again. Rubbing candle wax on the wooden runners and drawer sides should also ease this.
I could see this being used as a lamp table in any room. It would equally be used in a hallway for storing shoes and as a seat when putting your shoes on. Perhaps adding a cushion to the top to sit on. It would also make a lovely seat in a bay window. Many uses with this item.
Due to size and weight, this is collection only although I can deliver around Fife for a small delivery charge.
