Description
Antoni Model ADBO5 'Debut' 1/4 Size Double Bass
A 'John Hornby Skewes' product.
Currently priced new at £799 on jhs website with case and bow, but generally seems to be unavailable.
Please note this bass does not come with a bow.
Perfect for new players.
Laminated spruce back
Hand carved solid maple ribs
Double purfling
Laminated spruce table
Gloss finish scroll
High gloss antique brown varnish finish
Ebonised fingerboard and nut
Traditional, plated, open geared tuners
Ebonised hardwood endpin with adjustable chrome leg and rubber foot
Fitted maple bridge
Padded water resistant 600 denier nylon cordura bag/case with external bow pocket and accessory pocket. The case is a bit worn and has a tear at one side (see photo) but still perfectly serviceable.
I bought the bass from a friend who is a long term professional bass player - she had previously bought it new online.
She had just had the bass repaired and set up by a luthier, because it had fallen and the neck was damaged (see photo of the lower scroll/upper neck area).
The new neck that the luthier grafted on was of better quality/stability than the original, which is probably for the best, since the only other professional double bass player I know who has owned one of these said the neck was definitely it's weakest point.
The bass shows signs of gentle wear and tear, some surface chips in the varnish, but otherwise in generally very good condition, with a decent set of strings.
