If you decide to take a chance, good luck. My advice is to keep a firm boundary. Don't get lured into conversation/prying or accept any vague offers. Just hire in a very formal manner and hope for the best. Maybe this person has their moments and you'll be lucky. However, if you're not fully immune to emotionally manipulative, two-faced, gaslighting, downright unkind (after pretending to be kind) behaviour - as very few people are, you might want to steer clear of this one. It doesn't feel too nice to realise these things after falling for the nice act.
