Description
Stunning set of six, Scandinavian style dining chairs.
This fine features, joints and ties, lead us to believe these 1950s/early-60s. We believe they are Danish, but despite weeks of research and shared requests on American , Scandinavian and English forums, we’re still unable to identify the designer or manufacturer, although general consensus is that they are Scandinavian.
The design and craftsmanship is outstanding. Each back rest features four, finely detailed spindles with an unusual turned knot in the middle. The spindles are framed in sweeping uprights that gentle taper in - very Skandi. The cross spars are bow tie shaped - very similar to Kai Kristiansen’s work, particularly with Skovmand & Andersen.
This attention to detail is reflected in the base of each chair with slender stretchers and an elliptical mortice joint.
The teakwood frames are in superb condition and as always, have been cleaned, oiled and hand polished.
Another unusual feature is the deep seat pad which has been upholstered in cream vinyl. Again, fabulous condition and real attention to detail with each seat pad being piped fully around the edges.
The vinyl is immaculate and free from rips, tears or scuffs, and has been professionally cleaned, ready for their new home.
We’d suspected that these had originally been finished with paper cord, however we removed the base cloth to examine for marks, and the upholstery appears original and contemporary to the chairs. Base cloth has been replaced.
Super stylish, comfortable, and a real rare find.
Reasonably priced as we haven’t been able to identify maker, so potentially a real investment if attributed down the line!
A lovely set that will add to any design led home.
