VINTAGE FRENCH BOBBIN LEG STOOL, TURNED OAK TRIPOD PLANT STAND, SIDE TABLE, MILKING STOOL, TRIPLE CROSS BRACE WITH SHELF, 46cm tall - 1960s - REDUCED!

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

This is a charming, sturdy, handmade wooden stool with three turned bobbin legs and triple cross braces with a shelf in oak varnished in a mid century style.
We got it from a vide maison at Thillois, Champagne, where the owner dated it to around the 1960s and said it was made by a relative.
Now worn with an attractive patina but still very sound it makes a great decorative display piece, side table, plant stand…

In very good vintage condition with wear but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
Made from wood, I advised oak, which is varnished I think to resemble teak.
It was quite dirty and has had a clean and wax.
There is wear but no cracks or damage.
The seat is circular and is worn, slightly warped, but sound - see photos.
Structurally solid and I have sat on it but probably no longer recommended as a seat.
Stands well.
The construction appears to be a combination of glue and screws.
The leg joints are secure as are the three cross braces which slot into a central circular shelf.
NOTE: Although all joints are secure there is some movement at them, particularly to a couple of the cross braces where they can be pulled out. This seems to vary depending on humidity. That said the whole stool is structurally sound and stable - see photos.
The legs are well turned and the wood grain shows nicely.
The leg bases are worn from use with some worn pads but are sound.
No sign of woodworm.
I can find no maker’s mark.

Measures approximately:
46 cm tall,
27 cm seat diameter, 3 cm seat thickness,
36 cm leg span,
Weighs about 2.5 kg.
