RENOVATED Vintage Retro 40's 50's Ercol Early Windsor CC41 Utility Carver Chairs

For sale very rare set of two Ercol early Windsor CC41 Utility Carver Chairs.

This iconic piece was designed by Lucian Ercolani and manufactured in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and is now back in fashion (keenly collected and highly regarded). Ercol furniture is synonymous with good design, quality materials and craftsmanship and is built for longevity. In 1944 Ercol was commissioned by the 'Board of Trade', headed up by Gordon Russell, to produce 100,000 Windsor chairs and the probability of a further order for the same amount. They were to be sold via the CC41 (Civilian Clothing 1941) coupon scheme. This order was pivotal to Ercol and grew into what we all know today as the best selling 'Windsor' range of furniture. If it wasn't for this order we wouldn't have had the Studio Couch, 203 Armchair, Stacking chairs, Plank tables etc... All stalwarts of British Mid-Century Design & Classics in their own right. This is a real eye catching piece of vintage retro furniture which is unfortunately no longer in production.

The chairs are made of solid beech wood. Each subtly fashioned back consists of 6 turned spindles within a low arched frame. The well constructed solid beech seats are inset beneath with straight tapering legs which provide perfect support, and matching H pattern stretchers help to bolster the chairs structural rigidity.

The chairs have been professionally restored to its original condition. They have been striped of all old polish, any dents or scratches removed and re-polished (three coats of extra durable, water and heat resistant varnish) to a pristine condition. The chairs are free of any splits or wear to joints.
