Description
Like the Les Paul, the ES-335 stands as one of Gibson's all-time most iconic models. The ES-335 is a semi-hollowbody guitar which means that it has a solid block of wood running through its center with hollow wings on either side. This construction style maintains the open tone of a hollowbody while helping to reduce feedback. The ES-335 was introduced in 1958 and has remained in production in various forms ever since. The official model designation of the ES-335 is ES-335TD, with the TD standing for thinline, double pickups.
This 1970-72 model is player grade and boy has it been played – the top has faded from the dark Walnut finish (as seen on the back of the guitar) to a lighter finish with some real honest play wear to the top and one area of buckle rash to the back. It has been refretted at some point and, like many ‘70s Gibsons, the guitar has been “Grovered”. One of the volume pots has been changed and the tail piece has been replaced with a Bigsby unit (the original tail piece is included in the case). Everything else is original, including the Pat Number pickups which sound fantastic – it is easy to see why this guitar has been played so much – nice low action the guitar is great fun to play. Comes complete with a quality Hiscox hard case. A great chance to get a vintage ES-335 at a reasonable price.
