Description
Four classic spindle back elmwood penny chairs. Seats made of solid elm. No decoration on the legs. Condition fair ... bought second hand in Edinburgh circa 1970, previous history unknown, but likely Victorian. They had a heavy coat of blue paint, which was stripped by immersion in an acid bath. Some restoration work with sandpaper and general wear in use over the last 50 years has restored a nice patina. Would benefit from additional restoration. Fully restored sets can fetch prices circa £500.
