Description
A fine example of late 19th to early 20th century American craftsmanship, this platform rocking chair combines comfort with ornate detail. The design features turned spindle supports along the arms and back, with a tall, straight backrest for excellent posture support.
Unlike traditional rockers, this is a platform rocker, where the seat moves smoothly on a fixed base using a spring mechanism. This design, popular in American parlors from the 1870s onward, offered a gentler rocking motion and helped protect floors from wear.
The chair is upholstered in a cheerful multi-coloured plaid fabric with burgundy braid trim, bringing a lively country touch to its dark hardwood frame. Ideal for period homes, collectors, or anyone who appreciates traditional American furniture.
