Winter Hardy Palm - Trachycarpus Fortunei, also known as Chusan Palm or Chinese Windmill Palm.
These palm trees will sit out all winter long once established and look just as good during the cold wet months when the rest of the garden is struggling as they do during the summer. They are happy planted almost anywhere in the garden in moist well drained soil in full sun through to partial shade. If these trees are happy they will grow 30cm plus a year and achieve a considerable size with a mature height of up to 12 metres with a 2.5 metre spread. They can be pot planted whilst it remains a manageable size but we would recommend ground planting as the plant matures.
